GOVERNMENT

In his Gettysburg address, Abraham Lincoln said, “Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

I too believe in the bottom up model of government. Government should be of the people, by the people and for the people. Government was designed to serve the citizens at all levels and to take its cues from the people. Too often residents feel they have lost the connection to all levels of  government and the power they should have in government.

If reelected, I will continue the tradition of making myself available as I have over the last year looking for local input, attending community meetings throughout the County and acting on that input

TAXES & SERVICES

Last year, for the first time in Bonner County history, we were able to cut almost $9 million from the budget. This year we followed up with again, for only now the second time in Bonner County history, we cut over $3 million out of the budget. That’s a total of over $12 million in two years without cutting a single service. Additionally, I was responsible for creating an environment that has changed the culture of County government to look for more efficient ways to provide services with greater value. These two together have and will continue to prove to be the vehicle for further reducing taxes for all Bonner County Residents.

A good portion of my expertise has been to promote a team attitude with all the departments in the County. That, coupled with a can do customer service attitude has proven to not only save taxpayer dollars through increased productivity but has also created a more customer service related experience for the taxpayers. The proper attitude and understanding can make a big difference here.

PROTECTING THE CULTURE

When moving here over 22 years ago I was attracted to the beauty of the landscape. Additionally, I was attracted to the unique culture that we have in Bonner County. I for one have never seen a community that is more welcoming and charitable toward others in our community. When one of us is down, the rest of us rally to their side. That is part of our culture, part of who we are, part of why we are all here. We are diverse, open and live out the “live and let live” attitude each and every day. As Commissioner, I believe one of the responsibilities is to protect our unique culture and I will do so every day.

INCREASED ECONOMY & JOBS

The county does have a role in creating the proper environment to attract and keep business. I will continue to work toward a friendly and productive business environment in Bonner County, not just to attract new business but to retain businesses that are already here. While I am for growth as I believe it would create more and better paying jobs for our citizens, I am also for the right kind of growth so as to not conflict with the natural beauty and resources we all enjoy.

PROPERTY RIGHTS

For too long Bonner County has been slowly going down the path of decreased property rights. Some recent moves to stop that progress have been good, however, we need to keep moving in a more freedom minded direction. I believe property owners should have a right to do what they wish with their property as long as they are not adversely affecting their neighbors.

SECOND AMENDMENT

For those who have listened to my radio show or heard me speak, I am a staunch defender of the second amendment and an individual’s right to protect themselves as they see fit. I support the current permitless carry bill making its way through the Idaho state legislature and as Commissioner would do my part to protect our citizen’s rights.
